Oscar winning composer Tan Dun adapted a collection of arias from his opera Peony Pavilion for Ying Huang. Tan created a new composition based on the melodic material of the opera, which is influenced both by Chinese opera and 20th century rock and pop music. The love songs performed by Huang feature a combination of traditional Chinese instruments and modern percussion and synthesizers. |
