"When musicians are reading my music, they're just reading
notes. But it's like I have a baby. Then all of a sudden, it's like
people dressing up your baby in really weird clothing. There becomes
a point where the band takes the piece and makes it their own. I
separate from it, and the piece develops on its own. Then I develop
a really nice relationship with the piece. Then I forget the whole
process of "childbirth."
