| Trained as a concert pianist,
Kathleen competed on piano at the Carlisle Festival in 1937. Her husband
bet her a shilling to enter as a singer also. She had previously sung
in public at a few minor, unpaid functions. She took him up on the
bet and sang Roger Quilter's To Daisies and won in both the
vocal and piano categories. The Carlisle Journal reported that she
had 'one of the finest voices' they had heard. |
